Creating Cosmetics Data packs

Tom Ballaam edited this page May 12, 2023 · 39 revisions

Pack Formats

If you want to create your own cosmetic pack you need to adhere to the following format.

Within a zip file, eg: Pack.zip

bgm/
    - file1.bin
majoritems/
    - file2.bin
minoritems/
    - file3.bin
events/
    - file4.bin

You can name the files whatever you want they just need to have been converted with the n64 midi tool and saved as a .bin file. Currently we just randomly select from the whole list of files and will eventually allow specific song placement.

Common Problems

Important changes between vanilla DK64 and Randomizer
  • From 2.0 onwards, DK64 Randomizer can support files as big as 32768 bytes instead of 16512 for main BGM tracks.
  • Compressed file sizes aren't a concern with regard to DK64 Randomizer.
Acquiring the DK64 Soundfont
  1. Open N64 SoundBank Tool (Note "Soundbank" not "Sound"), which can be found here
  2. Select Donkey Kong 64 (U) in the dropdown and load your DK64 US ROM
  3. Select "Write all DLS Soundfont Banks", and select a folder. It should write a file called ExtractedSoundbank_00.dls in there
  4. Go to this page and download the installation package for SynthFont1 (1.770)
  5. Do all the installation setup. You will only need this program for the next 5-10 minutes.
  6. Load a midi file (Doesn't have to be one you want to convert, can just be any midi file)
  7. You should get a screen like this: image
  8. File > Set default soundfont file > Select the ExtractedSoundbank_00.dls file
  9. SF2-Tools > Save Soundfont as... > Save as a .sf2 file
  10. The SF2 file you just saved should now be a DK64 soundfont you can work from. Feel free to uninstall SynthFont as you will no longer need it.

  • Before importing your MIDI into N64 Midi Tool, check BOTH No Repeaters and Extend Short Tracks
