This is the Waveshaper effect. As the name suggests the effect will reshape the input sound wave following the curve you have created. It's mainly used to create a distortion (aka saturation), an overdrive effect to a sound. You could transform a simple guitare to an electric satured one.

This is effect by default without any change applied:


For example with this setting we are converting a sine wave into square wave, as you can see on the preview on the right:


By default the curve will be symmetrical around the zero point. But you can disable the symmetry with the toggle symm.
Here an example of a basic distortion with and without symmetry:

This gives you the possibility to apply a different shape to the lower amd upper parts of the waveform.
