Simulate key.pressed() && key.press()

I have a menu where a user can click on a virtual keyboard. I would like to be able to press buttons on that virtual keyboard.

For single key presses this works already:

key_press_system(
	mut input: ResMut<Input<KeyCode>>,
) {
    let key_name = KeyCode::C;
    input.press(key_name);
    input.release(key_name);
}

For when you need to hold down a key, and also press another key (e.g. Ctrl+C), I tried this but had no luck:

key_press_system(
	mut input: ResMut<Input<KeyCode>>,
) {
    let key_name = KeyCode::C;
    let key_aux = KeyCode::LControl;
    input.press(key_aux);
    input.press(key_name);
    input.release(key_name);
    input.release(key_aux);
}

Is there a way to do this in Bevy yet? Any insights appreciated.

Do I have to press the keys in one frame, then release them on the next frame?
