@drive team Suggested way of controlling height for intake / placement: use left and right bumpers to increase and decrease the bay to be placed in respectively, press y or b to make the lift go to the panel or ball height respectively of the specified bay.(edited) We can display what bay it's set to on the LEDs so you don't get confused.

Mitchell McCoyYesterday at 9:49 PM

@Ben Lemke @Alison Thompson what I was thinking is that we would have the A B X Y keys control the height of the balls and have the D-pad control the height for the hatches with each button being a different set point and having the trigers make the height go up or down by a little bit

Conall KingshottYesterday at 9:51 PM

The consensus was that we didn't want to use the D-pad. The way it returns data is weird and Alison doesn't want to use it.

Mitchell McCoyYesterday at 10:01 PM

Ok

The we could to something like if u hold the left stick or something like that like pressing the start button because the way I understand it from ben is that Alison has to line up there height again and for the parts she can't see I don't want her to do that

Yu LiuYesterday at 10:06 PM

@Mitchell McCoy can you clarify that? It's not making sense to us

Mitchell McCoyYesterday at 10:08 PM

So basically u have another button the the controller that switches between hatch height and ball height and u use the A B X Y keys to move the lift to the different set points and the tringers to move up and down slightly Alison ThompsonYesterday at 10:11 PM

personally i really like what Ben was saying about using bumpers, x or b and leds as it seems the simplest and ive tried doing that with a controller at home and it is really convient

i can also set the bay height while Owen drives from the intake location to the rocket or cargo ship

Mitchell McCoyYesterday at 10:12 PM

But I that means that u r going to have to guess the height on the part u can't see

Maybe I am understanding this wrong would the triggers switch between the heights or would it be like just to go up and down

Alison ThompsonYesterday at 10:13 PM

it switches between set points

Mitchell McCoyYesterday at 10:13 PM

Oh ok

Alison ThompsonYesterday at 10:13 PM

pressing b or x would cause it actually move

Mitchell McCoyYesterday at 10:14 PM

Do that but have the ability to also change the heights in a persice manner as well

Alison ThompsonYesterday at 10:15 PM

i dont entirely see why that would be really necessary as the heights never change but it would be a good thing to include

Mitchell McCoyYesterday at 10:16 PM

It would be necessary because as u know the set points and zeroing dosent always work

Ben LemkeYesterday at 10:16 PM

@Alison Thompson Encoder slip is a potential concern

Alison ThompsonYesterday at 10:16 PM

ahh true okay

Mitchell McCoyYesterday at 10:16 PM

Exactly

Alison ThompsonYesterday at 10:17 PM

not ideal for far side rockets so if that is a problem that progresses i would say that we do far side first so that we can get it done hopefully before encoder errors(edited)

Mitchell McCoyYesterday at 10:18 PM

Ik but it is there mostly as a back up

Alison ThompsonYesterday at 10:18 PM

okay cool

Ben LemkeYesterday at 10:18 PM

@Alison Thompson also keep in mind the encoders should zero every time the lift reaches the bottom

Alison ThompsonYesterday at 10:19 PM

yep

same concept as the limit switch correct?

Mitchell McCoyYesterday at 10:20 PM

@Ben Lemke pls add a button to just drop the lift and move the set points to one that way Alison dosent have to press the trigger multiple times(edited)

Ben LemkeYesterday at 10:23 PM

@Alison Thompson we don't know that it will be that type of mechanism exactly, but it is an option on the table.

Mitchell McCoyYesterday at 10:51 PM

@Alison Thompson @Owen McKinnon @Ben Lemke based on 2017 I feel that the actual outtake of the hatch and balls should be done by Owen with a toogle button to switch between hatch and balls

Pls provide input

Ben LemkeYesterday at 10:59 PM

I think we should let Alison and Owen have the final call.

My thought here is that because while Owen drives to a ball, we will want to be running a touch it, own it, intake, and Alison will be the one with free hands. therefore the ball intake in particular should be Alison. The ball outtake I would say should also be Alison, to provide consistency, but I agree that Owen should do Hatches.(edited)

Alison ThompsonYesterday at 11:00 PM

That would probably be good, when we were talking I believe it was assumed that there was going to be a shooter as opposed to the lift for the balls and based on 2017 that’s why I was doing it

Mitchell McCoyYesterday at 11:01 PM

That is what I am saying but I believe the Owen should intake and outtake the balls for the same reason that Owen intoke the cube this year(edited)

Alison ThompsonYesterday at 11:01 PM

Yeah I agree with that

Ben LemkeYesterday at 11:02 PM

@Alison Thompson Would you say, then, that Owen should take all intaking and outtaking and you just do a height adjustment and maybe climb stuff?

Or would you want hatches?

Alison ThompsonYesterday at 11:04 PM

I don’t really care, I think for simplicity’s sake Owen doing all intake and outtake would work

Ben LemkeYesterday at 11:04 PM

OK

Conall KingshottYesterday at 11:04 PM

Another thing to consider is who is taking care of ground pickups if they happen

Owen McKinnonYesterday at 11:04 PM

It depends on the intake but if its the same mechanism than the controls could be very similar to this year(edited)

Ben LemkeYesterday at 11:05 PM

Conall makes a good point. In any case though, it's not crucial to decide immediately.
