The following schematic presents a simplified view of a pile. All spatial information can be captured by inheriting the related types that already exist in DIGGS. All other information will require new definitions, mostly. There are existing types that could be inherited and extended.

Types of Deep Foundations

(not to be confused with schema types)

The amount of information that must be captured to adequately represent a deep deep foundation element varies depending on the type. Below is a series of schematics presenting each type. This should help in identifying some of the required properties.

Translating Pile Properties to DIGGS

Clearly each pile type has a different set of required and optional properties. Perhaps the best DIGGS implementation is to create an abstract deep foundation complex type that will define all common properties and then create new complex types for each pile type than will extend the abstract type.
