Design Principles

  • Open and Welcoming: Our designs should feel inclusive and community-oriented
  • Professional: While fun, maintain a level of polish befitting our technical excellence
  • Scalable: Think about how designs will work at different sizes and contexts
  • Accessible: Consider color contrast and readability

🛠️ Technical Details: How It Works

Our branding assets are designed to be flexible and scalable across all platforms where the WoW Emulation community has a presence.

Technology Stack

We primarily use the SVG format for our visual assets. This provides several advantages:

  • Scalability: Assets look crisp at any size, from tiny favicons to large banners
  • Editability: Images can be modified programmatically for different contexts
  • Flexibility: Easy to generate variations with different colors, backgrounds, or styles
  • Open Source: Works perfectly with open source design tools

Use Cases

Our branding assets serve the community across multiple platforms:

  • Project Logos: For GitHub, our website, and community use
  • Repository Icons: Consistent branding across all our GitHub projects
  • Social Media: Avatars and profile backgrounds for community presence
  • Documentation: Diagrams and illustrations for guides and tutorials
  • Events: Banners and graphics for community events and announcements

Tools We Use

We're proud to use exclusively open source tools for our design work:

  • Inkscape: Professional vector graphics editor for creating and editing SVG files
  • ImageMagick: Powerful command-line tool for converting and processing images

No commercial or paid software required! This aligns with our open source philosophy and ensures everyone in our community can contribute. If you appreciate these tools, consider supporting their development! ❤️

Automated Asset Generation

The convert.sh script automates the generation of various asset formats from our source SVG files, including:

  • Web-optimized PNGs in multiple resolutions
  • Favicons for browsers
  • Touch icons for mobile devices
  • Platform-specific formats (Android, iOS, etc.)
