2. Second, pull hello-world image from docker hub.

docker pull <image_name> [replace with your desire image_name]

docker pull hello-world

Output:

Using default tag: latest
latest: Pulling from library/hello-world
17eec7bbc9d7: Pull complete

Status: Downloaded newer image for hello-world:latest
docker.io/library/hello-world:latest

Check Docker Images List (Before pulling new image hello-world from docker hub):

docker images

Output:
REPOSITORY TAG IMAGE ID CREATED SIZE
redis latest f2cd22713a18 6 weeks ago 128MB
bitnami/kafka 3.7 cb4410499b04 8 months ago 648MB

Check Docker Images List (After pulling new image hello-world from docker hub):

docker images

Output:
REPOSITORY TAG IMAGE ID CREATED SIZE
hello-world latest 1b44b5a3e06a 13 days ago 10.1kB

bitnami/kafka 3.7 cb4410499b04 8 months ago 648MB

NB: See hello-world is added into the image list

3. Check Container List

docker ps -a

Output:
CONTAINER ID IMAGE COMMAND CREATED STATUS PORTS NAMES
fb9501a951ad bitnami/kafka:3.7 "/opt/bitnami/script…" 3 days ago Exited (143) 2 days ago kafka
a80935efa3cb   redis               "docker-entrypoint.s…"   6 weeks ago   Exited (255) 4 days ago   0.0.0.0:6379->6379/tcp   redis-server

N.B: See there is no hello-world image container is created, because we need to create it first.

4. Create a container from image

docker create <image_name>

docker create hello-world

Output:
c3628e97d00465ea3b5cbf43bc1ec6a626e68b912a1f0629937d0c315a1e775c

Check/Verify Docker Container List again (After creating new container from image):

docker ps -a

CONTAINER ID IMAGE COMMAND CREATED STATUS PORTS NAMES
c3628e97d004 hello-world "/hello" 12 seconds ago Created quirky_payne
fb9501a951ad bitnami/kafka:3.7 "/opt/bitnami/script…" 3 days ago Exited (143) 2 days ago kafka
a80935efa3cb   redis               "docker-entrypoint.s…"   6 weeks ago      Exited (255) 4 days ago   0.0.0.0:6379->6379/tcp   redis-server

N.B See there is new container added into the list with Container ID : c3628e97d004

5. Start the container

docker start <container_id> or <container_name>

docker start c3628e97d004

Output:
c3628e97d004

For starting the container : we can use both container_id or container_name

6. Verify Container is Running or Not

docker ps -a

CONTAINER ID IMAGE COMMAND CREATED STATUS PORTS NAMES
c3628e97d004 hello-world "/hello" 8 minutes ago Exited (0) About a minute ago quirky_payne
fb9501a951ad bitnami/kafka:3.7 "/opt/bitnami/script…" 3 days ago Exited (143) 2 days ago kafka
a80935efa3cb   redis               "docker-entrypoint.s…"   6 weeks ago     Exited (255) 4 days ago         0.0.0.0:6379->6379/tcp   redis-server

N.B See the STATUS into the list

7. If you want to pause the container

docker pause <container_id>

docker pause c3628e97d004

N.B Your container must be running for executing the above command otherwise you will encounter with the below error:

docker pause c3628e97d004
Error response from daemon: container c3628e97d00465ea3b5cbf43bc1ec6a626e68b912a1f0629937d0c315a1e775c is not running

8. If you want to Stop the container

docker stop <container_id>

9. If you want to Remove the container

docker rm <container_id>

10. Verify/Check Container is Removed

docker ps -a
