Trying to figure out which messaging app meets your security requirements?
In 2017, the EFF created a Secure Messaging Scorecard that compared popular messaging platforms. Unfortunately, they stopped updating it.
Here's several alternatives that are updated

Mark Williams created the Secure Messaging Apps Comparison website to compare secure messaging apps in 2016
Brian (Perelandra0x309) created the Secure Chat Guide website to track information about different features of different messaging apps in 2018.
Mike Kuketz created the Messenger Matrix website to provide an overview of various (technical) features of diverse messengers
Du (du82) created the Privacy Spreadsheet website to provide a comprehensive breakdown of the privacy of a variety of software and services.
The Smoke app's website provides a comparison of FOSS, mobile, cryptographic chat applications.
The DivestOS documentation provides a simple table comparing various messengers.
The Freie Messengers website provides a simple PDF with a table comparing popular messaging systems
The fair phone forum has an article outlining pros/cons of various messaging apps
eylenburg created the Comparison of Instant Messengers in 2021
Restore Privacy first published an article comparing the pros/cons of various Secure & Encrypted Messaging Apps in 2023
Hashbang maintains a Google Docs spreadsheet comparing the features of various communication protocols and apps

One of the stated missions of the NSA is to protect the communications of U.S. networks and information systems. Namely, they're interested in protecting the information of U.S. corporations -- to protect the U.S. economy.
While, historically, the NSA has spearheaded illegal projects that harmed the communications of everyday U.S. citizens, the NSA has a history of publishing extremely useful guidance on how to secure technical infrastructure -- written for the U.S. corporations.
The NSA has also published a guide that compares the security features of various messaging apps
