A colour scheme inspired by Joe Bergantine's Birds of Paradise.
This first version has 17 unique colours. My target for this palette was an .Xresources file which has 16 colours plus foreground, background and cursor colours. For foreground and cursor I used the regular white from the palette. The background colour is the "extra" 17th colour.
The colours are fairly balanced in terms of their CIELAB values.
All of the conversions between RGB (hex) and CIELAB values have been performed with the color-convert JavaScript library.

This graph shows the relative lightness values.
This graph shows the relative a* and b* values. The x-axis shows the a* values (red on the left, green on the right) and the y-axis shows the b* values (blue at the top, yellow at the bottom.)
This version uses 36 colours because that's what gruvbox uses. This way I can take gruvbox themes and map them into being Vogel5000 themes.
For comparison, here are some swatches laid out in the same way as the gruvbox ones.
