Later I realized that I don't have to (keep track of versions/make it environment independet). And I switched to emacs org files to manage most of my configs, say, one for emacs, one for TeXmacs, one for mailing system (msmtp+mbsync+neomutt+notmuch+oauth2 tools), one for lite configs of various softwares. When I need to setup a new laptop, I just encrypt and find a way to transfer the org file then tangle it, so simple.
