The Leaf-Level Gas Exchange reporting format was updated in March of 2025 to address enhancement requests to reorganize files, revise instructions for clarity, add required variables, and add files to align with the FLMD format recommendations.

Issues addressed in pull requests #13 and #15 were led by @regnans and implemented by @dylanporyan

• Data dictionary (dd) template file #10
  • Data dictionary (dd) files have been added to Templates folder for methods metadata, instrument details, LI-COR 6400 output, LI-COR 6800 output and the reporting format defined variables, to provide pre-populated data dictionary files for easier use of this reporting format.
• Reporting format name updated to be consistent with ESS-DIVE reporting format and standard terms #11
  • Naming of reporting format has been updated to be consistent with ESS-DIVE reporting format and standard terms.
• Tair and VPDleaf added as Required Variables, as requested by @JulienLamour in #12
  • Tair and VPDleaf have been added as Required Variables for the Survey data type, as recommended by early adopters of the reporting format.
• Suggested file naming conventions added to Instructions and Guides documents #8
  • Suggested file naming conventions have been added to the Instructions and Guides documents, for easier identification of reporting format specific files on ESS-DIVE.
  • File names (e.g., metadata template) have been adjusted based on the suggested file naming convention, to keep consistent with naming conventions.
• Reorganization of GitHub file structure #9
  • The GitHub file structure has been reorganized with an easier to read repo structure, including removing the “docs” folder, renaming of files to align with instructions, and removing nested organization of informational content.
• Methods Metadata Guide revision #14
  • Modification made to 3a_methodsMetadataGuide.md file to address issue #14 as suggested by @msteckle, led by @regnans. The “experimentalManipulation” term within the 3a_methodsMetadataGuide.md file was updated to be “experimentalTreatment” to be consistent with the methods metadata template file.

Added a section to the Instructions on how to use this format in combination with other ESS-DIVE reporting formats. Use of the reporting format for CSV file structure is specifically noted, to provide guidance on missing value, temporal and spatial data types.
