How It Works

Getting Started

Follow these steps to set up the AI Milestone Planning Assistant on your local machine:

Prerequisites

• Python 3.8+
• Node.js 14+
• npm or yarn
• An Azure account with access to Azure OpenAI Services

Backend Setup

1. Clone the repository:

   git clone https://github.com/yourusername/ai-milestone-planner.git
   cd ai-milestone-planner/backend
   

2. Create a virtual environment and activate it:

   python -m venv venv
   source venv/bin/activate  # On Windows, use `venv\Scripts\activate`
   

3. Install the required Python packages:

   pip install -r requirements.txt
   

4. Set up your environment variables:

   • Create a .env file in the backend directory
   • Add the following variables, replacing the values with your Azure OpenAI credentials:

     AZURE_OPENAI_API_KEY=your_api_key
     AZURE_OPENAI_API_BASE=your_api_base
     AZURE_OPENAI_API_VERSION=your_api_version
     AZURE_OPENAI_DEPLOYMENT_NAME=your_deployment_name
     

5. Run the FastAPI server:

   uvicorn api:app --reload
   

   The backend should now be running on http://localhost:8000.

Frontend Setup

1. Navigate to the frontend directory:

   cd ../frontend
   

2. Install the required npm packages:

   npm install
   

3. Start the development server:

   npm run dev
   

   The frontend should now be running on http://localhost:5173.

Using the Application

1. Open your web browser and go to http://localhost:5173.
2. You should see the AI Milestone Planning Assistant interface.
3. Enter your project details, including the project description and duration.
4. Click "Submit" to generate milestones.
5. Review, edit, and refine the generated milestones as needed.

Troubleshooting

• If you encounter any issues with the backend, make sure your Azure OpenAI credentials are correct and that you have the necessary permissions.
• For frontend issues, check the console in your web browser's developer tools for any error messages.
