Hosting outside your network

If you can't be in the same Wi-Fi network as the people you want to collaborate with, you can use network tunneling services or make your device visible to the whole internet.

Tunneling / VPN (recommended)

Tunneling allows you to create a virtual LAN network over the internet that you and others can connect to. Devices in the network will be able to interact with each other just like if they are connected to the same router.

Most of those services should also allow you to whitelist and ban users.

Opening ports

Warning

It's not recommended as it exposes your device to potential attacks from the internet.

Anyone will be able to connect to your exposed ports simply by using your IP address.

In order for devices from the internet to connect directly to your global IP address, you need to edit your router's firewall settings. For default, GodotTogether uses the 5017 port.

There are plenty of different routers out there, so making a manual here might not be the best idea. Please refer to your router's manual or online guides.
