Vehicle to Infrastructure Benefit Cost Analysis Tool Prototype

Description:

The Vehicle to Infrastructure (V2I) Benefit Cost Analysis (BCA) Tool (V2I BCA Tool) prototype was developed to help transportation agencies explore the potential benefits of V2I technology in the context of uncertainty around future fleet uptake in on-board units (OBUs), future deployment of automated vehicles (AVs), and the uncertainty around the expected effectiveness and interaction of these technologies on safety, travel time, emissions, and other benefits. The tool uses a BCA framework and flexibly allows users to test potential outcomes given scenarios for different OBU and automation deployments and technology effectiveness.

Download and Use:

The V2I BCA Tool Prototype is a R Shiny-based tool intended to run on a user's computer.

Manual and Quick Start Data:

The tool user guide can be found here: V2I BCA Tool Prototype User Guide. The user guide provides tool background, how to's on downloading R and running the tool on your machine, a manual on the tool's functions, a walkthrough of each tool tab, and a description of the "Example Project" which is a notional project to aid in learning how the tool works.

Contributing:

While USDOT does not currently have plans for additional further development, interested users can add bugs and feature requests to the Issues tab which the department or another party may address in future updates.
