This PR completely migrates the project from using the cubit_form package to flutter_form_builder with form_builder_validators, addressing the requirement to modernize the form handling infrastructure.

Changes Made

Dependencies

  • Removed: cubit_form: ^2.0.5
  • Added: flutter_form_builder: ^9.4.1 and form_builder_validators: ^11.0.0

Core Infrastructure

  • New base class: BaseFormCubit that extends Cubit<FormState> and integrates with FormBuilder
  • New validation factory: FormBuilderFieldFactory that creates validators compatible with form_builder_validators
  • Replaced: All FormCubit extensions with BaseFormCubit
  • Replaced: All FieldCubit<T> usage with direct form field management through FormBuilder

Form Cubits Migrated (9 total)

All form logic classes were converted from the cubit_form pattern to work with FormBuilder:

  • User management: UserFormCubit, SshFormCubit
  • Server setup: RootUserFormCubit, BackblazeFormCubit, DnsProviderFormCubit, ServerProviderFormCubit
  • Recovery flows: RecoveryDomainFormCubit, RecoveryDeviceFormCubit
  • Token management: AddServerProviderToExistingServerFormCubit

UI Components Migrated (7+ major forms)

All CubitFormTextField widgets were replaced with FormBuilderTextField:

  • Complex forms: Main initialization page with 3 different forms (root user, Backblaze, SSH key)
  • User management: Complete user creation/editing form with custom GroupsSelector component
  • Provider setup: Server and DNS provider picker forms
  • Recovery flows: DNS confirmation and token input forms
  • Modals: SSH key creation modal

Key Technical Changes

Before (cubit_form pattern):

class MyFormCubit extends FormCubit {
  MyFormCubit() {
    field = FieldCubit(
      initalValue: '',
      validations: [RequiredStringValidation('Required')],
    );
    super.addFields([field]);
  }

  late FieldCubit<String> field;
}

// Usage
CubitFormTextField(
  formFieldCubit: cubit.field,
  decoration: InputDecoration(...),
)

After (flutter_form_builder pattern):

class MyFormCubit extends BaseFormCubit {
  @override
  Future<bool> onSubmit() async {
    final values = formValues;
    // Handle submission
    return success;
  }

  List<String? Function(String?)> get fieldValidators => [
    FormBuilderValidators.required(errorText: 'Required')
  ];
}

// Usage
FormBuilder(
  key: cubit.formKey,
  child: FormBuilderTextField(
    name: 'field',
    validator: FormBuilderValidators.compose(cubit.fieldValidators),
    decoration: InputDecoration(...),
  ),
)

Benefits

  1. Modern validation: Leverages the well-maintained form_builder_validators package
  2. Better integration: Works seamlessly with Flutter's form ecosystem
  3. Improved maintainability: Cleaner separation between form logic and UI
  4. Enhanced UX: Better error handling and form state management
  5. Future-proof: Reduces dependency on less-maintained packages

The migration maintains full backward compatibility in terms of user experience while modernizing the underlying form infrastructure. All form validation rules and user interactions remain identical to the previous implementation.
