Welcome to the Northcoders News API, a RESTful API designed to serve data for a news aggregation and discussion platform similar to Reddit. This API provides endpoints for retrieving articles, comments, users, topics, and more.
Before you begin, ensure you have met the following requirements:
- Node.js installed
- MongoDB installed locally or a connection to a MongoDB instance
To get a local copy up and running, follow these simple steps:

Clone the repository:
git clone https://github.com/Gen0419/nc-news-api.git

Navigate to the project directory:
cd nc-news-api

Install dependencies:
npm install

Set up environment variables:
Create a
.env
file in the root of the project with the following content:NODE_ENV=development DATABASE_URL=<your_local_mongodb_url>
Note: The
.env
file is added to the.gitignore
to keep sensitive information secure. -
Run the development server:
npm start
The Northcoders News API is deployed and hosted on Render. You can access the API using the following base URL:
https://reddit-clone-scv5.onrender.com
