Do not build on tag. We create a release on merge to master and building on tag will with our current configuration result in:

  • upload artifacts twice changing the hash,
  • update GitHub release again, turning it to a draft and causing a republish
  • trigger NuGet deployment
  • from updating the GitHub release and having to republish will cause another GitHub New Release Deployments action

^ refers to the file's path from the root of the repository, so ^README\.md$ would exclude README.md (on whichever branch you're using).

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The AppVeyor CI configuration was modified to include the skip_tags: true directive, ensuring that builds are not triggered by Git tag events. This prevents duplicate artifact uploads and redundant deployment steps associated with both tag and branch builds.

Changes

File(s) Change Summary
appveyor.yml Added skip_tags: true to instruct AppVeyor to ignore builds triggered by Git tags.

Poem

A hop, a skip, a build or two,
But tags, dear friend, we now eschew!
No more doubles, no more fuss,
AppVeyor listens well to us.
Artifacts safe, deployments neat—
This rabbit’s work is now complete! 🐇✨

3-3: Clarify rationale for skipping tag builds
The newly added comment succinctly explains why tag-triggered builds should be skipped, improving maintainability of the CI configuration.

4-4: Prevent CI runs on Git tags
The skip_tags: true directive is correctly placed at the top level and will stop AppVeyor from building tag events, avoiding duplicate artifacts and redundant deployments.
