Vertex AI supports
anyOfunion fields which are otherwise unsupported by Gemini. Support is added by modifying theconvert_to_nullablehelper function (renamedconvert_anyof_null_to_nullableto better reflect its new functionality) to handlenulltypes withinanyOffields (which are still not supported), while leavinganyOfunions otherwise intact.Null fields are handled according to vertex documentation here. An error is thrown if all fields within the
anyOfare null, as a standalone null type within a response schema is considered invalid by VertexRelevant issues
