Official repository for our group miniproject submission - Interactive Visual Novel Based Game
The project was to develop a visually immersive and engaging narrative-based game using Ren'Py, a visual novel engine, adapting the story of the acclaimed Shakesperean play "The Merchant of Venice". The premise of the project is to implement interactive storytelling and have branching storylines based on user choices, with overarching consequences throughout. The project also aims to convey important moral messages within the game, focusing on and moral values, provide guidance and offer insights into the consequences of one's actions, encouraging players to make thoughtful choices throughout the game, while also maintaining the interactive sentiment through puzzles, challenges, riddles, etc.
- Ren'py Visual Novel Engine - Ren'Py 8.1.0 (renpy.org).
- Python libraries like Ren'Py distribution tools; self-voicing, speech synthesis(optional).
- IDE - VS Code with Ren'Py language support.
- Publicly available character set and background images as assets, or created using AI text-to-image generators like Dall-E and leonardo.ai.
- Freesound.org, SoundBible, and Epidemic Sound for audio assets.
- Scripting help tools - Storyboords and StudioBinder.
- Should have OpenGL 2, DirectX 9, OpenGL ES 2, or WebGL to run Ren'Py.
- The model-based renderer requires OpenGL ES 3 or WebGL 2.
