This version of the installer fixes permission errors for some Windows users by running the installer as Administrator (if possible).

If you'd prefer to run the installer without Administrator permissions, download the 07th-Mod.Installer.Windows.NoAdmin.exe version of the installer.

This update also improves the error message if you try to run multiple instances of the installer at once, and allows you to bypass this check.

Installation Instructions

  • Please download the installer to your computer, then run it - don't run directly from your browser
  • Please read the Higurashi or Umineko wiki sections for more information.

Known Issues

  • You may need to refresh the webpage (web GUI) if it does not load or seems to hang.
    • This will happen for MacOS users / Python 2 / Python 3.6 and below using the Chrome web browser (Firefox seems to be OK)
    • This shouldn't happen on Windows builds / Python 3.7 and up as we've applied a fix
Linux: Higurashi with GNOME Desktop/Ubuntu Crashes - CLICK TO EXPAND

GNOME Desktop (the default on Ubuntu) may cause Higurashi Ep.4 and upwards to crash the entire desktop when you start the game.

We've had varying reports - Ubuntu 19.10 with GNOME 3.34.2. seems to work (except for a crash in Tatarigoroshi on first startup). But previously we've had crash reports from anyone using GNOME. This happens even on the base game (without any mods applied).

If you have this issue, a workaround is to install XFCE desktop. You can follow this guide to install XFCE desktop (it can be installed alongside GNOME).

Please make sure you can launch the base game before applying any mods (please don't make any saves on the base game as they are not compatible with the mod).

Important Changes

  • Allow bypassing "installer already running check", and improve UX 7c82826, See #147
    • Previously if you tried to run another copy of the installer when it was already running, a console would pop up with an error message
    • Now, a message box will pop-up telling you the installer is already running. The message box allows you to bypass this check and run multiple instances of the installer anyway (useful if the lockfile was not cleared for whatever reason).
  • Make default Windows .exe use 'highestAvailable' permission, and add 'NoAdmin' .exe which doesn't require administrator. 9b5a526
    • Some users were having issues with permissions on Windows
    • There is a "NoAdmin" version of the exe, which will always run the installer without administrator permissions (the same behavior as previous)

Virus Scan Results

Your antivirus software or Windows may incorrectly give an antivirus warning (a false positive). If you're worried, you can check the below link for a VirusTotal Scan of the Windows .exe.

Typically we never get more than a couple false positives across the suite of about 67 different types of antivirus software.
