Clone z-wave controller #296
-
Hi, I was wondering if there is a way to save what is on a z-stick and then restore it to another identical z-stick? It seems that if the controller ever failed that it would be a mess to get a new one up and working. |

Hey @fabnavigator - yes. Use the NVM Backup option, in transceiver settings. The NVM represents the layout of the land across the network, and contains the identifiable ID used by nodes, to find their home network |

Thank you @marcus-j-davies. I looked under the Other Actions menu, but my brain didn't think that Transceiver Settings was interesting enough to click on. lol. |

Got it. But if I just want to swap out the z-stick I just need to restore the NVM backup. Right? |

Correct!!
To change over sticks (better to be identical - FW also), then only the NVM needs to be restored to the new stick
But If you ever backup the cache folder anyway (i.e to move it all over to a new Pi lets say) - shutdown Node RED first, the cache folder uses lock files, to guard against data corruption.
The cache folder, is the Drivers "knowledge base" for the network.
The NVM doesn't store this data - as it's considered application data.
but for the same system with a new stick taking the place of another - an NVM backup/restore is enough
