I just tried to compile and got the same error message first about pistondevelopers/event, then also about time; here it is:

    Updating git repository `https://github.com/pistondevelopers/sdl2_window`

Caused by:
  failed to clone into: /home/alberto/.multirust/toolchains/stable/cargo/git/db/event-64e6f06422add62a

Caused by:
  failed to authenticate when downloading repository
attempted to find username/password via git's `credential.helper` support, but failed

It might be because those repos do not exist any more:
https://github.com/pistondevelopers/event
https://github.com/pistondevelopers/time

I think I solved it by replacing all packages from pistondevelopers in Cargo.toml with a single entry for the current complete repo where most/all of them had been incorporated:
