It'd need to wait for the PR you linked to get merged yeah. The extension is fairly general; parts of this extension might be difficult to implement. Some parts are probably reasonably easy to support, like materials, lights, cameras. Any parameter that's int/bool would require changes to core animation processing as well, but I suspect these are just a bad idea to animate for any reasonable renderer (e.g. doubleSided, UV index, etc.). UV offset/scale animation are harder to implement because of quantization. There might be some other things that are hard that I'm not thinking about OTOH.

Also it looks like three.js doesn't support this yet? There's a PR mrdoob/three.js#24108 but it hasn't been merged. I might need to wait for that as well to be able to test anything here thoroughly... Not sure if I can use Babylon JS instead - but I'd assume you need three.js support at runtime as well to actually use that extension?
