Agree, and I believe I have narrowed it down already.
Whenever CONFIG_UART_ASYNC_API is set, one needs to have some properties (dmas, dma-names) defined for the sam0_uart driver. If they are not (which is the case on this board), compilation fails.

Should we provide working default values for these in the board devicetree files ?
