How can I export a static graph image to pdf/svg

Hello, I am using yfiles-juypter-graphs in vscode, and I would like to be able to export a static image of the graphwidget output. Is there a way to do that currently?

The widget itself does not provide this functionality, directly. You can open the graph in yed-live via the menu button and then use the advanced export functionality that's available, there.

If you are worried about privacy: Your graph will not be sent to our server but will stay local on your machine.

Thanks for the quick response. I found that importing it into yEd Live to be largely unusable and buggy (I am importing from neo4j via vs code if that makes a difference). I was also hoping for less of a manual experience, and instead something that could be used as a way to generate quick almost production quality snapshots of subgraphs as part of a scientific pipeline. I realize now that is not the intended use case of the free tool.

It would be great if you could share your findings re the bugginess with us! I would hope that we can fix those bugs. VS Code is a bit special and I remember that it might be limited with respect to the integration with external tools.

If this is about automating the snapshot generations of graphs from neo4j, then indeed this is not what the tool was meant for.

Instead, you should be using yFiles directly. You can connect it to your datasources, have full control over the layout, visualization, and the export. Or any other visualization tool, if you don't want to invest into yFiles. However using a Jupyter notebook widget inside VSCode that is meant to be used for interactively working with cells does not sound like a good match for automating a complex flow.

Just because technically you could brew coffee on the exhaust pipe of a school-bus while driving does not make it a great idea if there is also a coffee-shop ;-)

Hi @winatony,

Based on your message, I looked into the VSCode integration and actually found an issue with the drag-drop export into yEd Live. This is now fixed and you can drag-drop the file-icon of the jupyter-graphs dialog directly into yEd Live. You do not need to update your installed widget, as this was fixed in yEd Live.

Let us know if you find more issues with the integration.

Again, thanks for the prompt response. I checked, and drag and drop does now work in yEd Live, though I still could not get it to work for Data Explorer. @yGuy I completely agree that for a real application it would make more sense to use yFiles for html, I just happen to be in a proof of concept phase right now. I appreciate the work you all have put into the widget, it gets me 95% of the way to where I want to be. If my project sponsor ever wants to move towards an enterprise-level application, I will be back asking more questions for sure.
