Markdoc partial variable passing

I struggle with using partials, especially passing variables.

Note

Markdoc partials appear to be the only way to preserve the document structure. For example, if you have headings (h1, h2, ...) in your Markdoc file, they show up in the parent. MDX partials fail here, so only Markdoc partials actually truly compose.

Example test.mdoc:

---
title: Dummy
---

{% partial
     file="./_test.mdoc"
     variables={
       name: "foo",
       version: 42,
       test: true,
     }
/%}

Then the partial _test.mdoc:

## Foo

Name: {% $name %}

## Bar

Version: {% $version %}

## Baz ({% $test %})

Unfortunately this just renders empty variables:

I've followed the setup instructions in the docs, the page compiles and properly loads, as you can see above (including proper ToC), but the variables are not getting substituted.

Am I missing something obvious?

I guess if anything it’s a bug in Astro’s Markdoc integration perhaps? I’d suggest opening an issue: https://github.com/withastro/astro/issues/new/choose
