To customize a 404 page, you can directly add a theme folder in your root dir, and add a index.tsx file like this

const NotFoundLayout = () => <div>404</div>;

export default {
  ...Theme,
  NotFoundLayout,
};

export * from "rspress/theme";

You can write any react component for NotFoundLayout.

• 我的想法就是如果有 404.mdx 那么就替换到默认的 404 页面。（这样我只需创建一个 404.mdx 即可）

这件事情没有单纯的替换这么简单呢，还涉及运行时的 fallback 以及 i18n、dark mode 等，最终的呈现形式叫做主题。这个设计和其他众多静态站点方案一样，都需要对主题进行重载。
