Activation of v4 with an outdated (v1 or v2) license - error

I bougth betterdisplay license, but now I see error:

Hi there,

simply upgrading to the v4.x version should not block you from using Pro features. The app only shows a warning about the outdated license (meaning a license that was purchased when v1.x or v2.x was still the current version - these licenses already got a major version license upgrade for free). However if you deactivate or reinstall the app, an outdated license cannot activate v4.x again (though you can always reinstall and activate the latest v3.x version instead). This is why you see the error message.

The license is lifetime (not a subscription), but it applies to the main version available at the time of purchase. As a gesture, every user has received one major upgrade for free so far.

If you prefer not to upgrade right now, I recommend redownloading v3.x from the GitHub page and continuing to use it. If you do want to use v4.x but aren’t ready to buy a new license just yet, make sure you keep your installation activated after upgrading the app.

Is there an upgrade discount for those of us that would like to update?

Hi Dean,

it would be great, but sadly Paddle cannot handle a discounted purchase based on a preexisting license key. Sorry about that. I tried to offset this (especially for those who are near the cut-off date) with the flexible way the app handles outdated license (warning instead of simply deactivating). So if you can't afford an upgrade right now, feel free to put-off upgrading and continue to use the app (enduring the warning), no need to feel bad about it. But there is always a student discount + if a non-student user contacts me in a DM via Discord explaining briefly why a discount is needed (special circumstances etc) I tend to hear it out and provide a discount coupon. :)
