I use macos for a month now, and BetterDisplay was crucial since day one as I have three WQHD screens and need HiDPI. Thank you for fixing this incomplete OS! 🙏🏻 As this was the only feature I needed, I disabled the Trial. Over time I noticed, that one of my screens looks a little bit unsharp and it took a while until I found out, that it's due to a wrong colormode (10-bit SDR). While I can change it with BetterDisplay, It resets with every wake. So I need to use the configuration protection, which is a Pro feature. I'm not against paying for BetterDisplay, but prior to that, I want to know how Configuration protection works. Because when it turns out, that it induces short black screens after every wake (to set the new mode), it would annoy me too much to pay for it and I would rather search another solution. But if it just works in the background without any sideeffects, I'm in! Unfortunately despite disabling the Trial, the timer expired and now I cant just test it myself... |

Yes, the app will need to set the new mode which will require a mode switch. An alternate option is to override the persisted color mode for the monitor (you can edit the window manager's display configuration), but it's a semi-stable solution. An other option is to override the EDID and remove YCbCr support, but applying the EDID results in an even longer modeswitch-like effect (however that might not repeat itself on every wake). |
