If you dynamic resolution, it means you are using the high performance virtual screen - this normally disables displays, the issue might be related to this.

If I toggle Off then On the internal display in BetterDisplay's menu, it also brings it back. |

Ok. I then simply recommend using this. I am not sure whether the issue is strictly related to BetterDisplay - having the screens unavailable during high performance streaming is normal and maybe there is a bug of some kind with the lid closed/open. The screen appears upon exiting BD because the app by default attempts to reconnect all displays (same as in the Tools menu), even ones not soft-disconnected by the app when exiting, just to be sure the user is not left stranded with disconnected displays - so this does not signify that it was BD that disconnected the display in the first place. |

Imo this is not a satisfying solution: if I only have access to the laptop, then the only thing I can do is force a reboot. I can only use above options because I had an external display available at home. |

If I exit BetterDisplay, internal screen comes back to life. I haven't thoroughly tested but this does not look random. I get it very often.
