When waking from sleep, MBP screen remains black

Setup:

• 2024 MBP with macOS 15.5
• BetterDisplay 3.5.5

Steps:

• Close the MBP lid (nothing special done to luminosity settings)
• Connect through Apple screen sharing from another Mac (I enable dynamic resolution, not sure if it matters)
• Disconnect screen sharing
• When opening the MBP lib, internal screen remains black, however an external display will properly display contents

If I exit BetterDisplay, internal screen comes back to life. I haven't thoroughly tested but this does not look random. I get it very often.

If you dynamic resolution, it means you are using the high performance virtual screen - this normally disables displays, the issue might be related to this.

• Do you see the display in the app menu, only the brightness is down, or the display is not present in the app menu at all or it is shown as off?
• Do you have the display reconnected when you do App menu > Tools > Displays… > Connect All Displays - without exiting the app?

I'm indeed using the high performance virtual screen.

In the menu there's no name for the display, and in the app settings it says "screen sharing virtual display" (roughly translated from French).

Do you have the display reconnected when you do App menu > Tools > Displays… > Connect All Displays - without exiting the app?

Doing this while in screen sharing does nothing. And when going back to the Mac, when internal display is black, I see the two displays listed:

From there, if I do "Connect All Displays" (so on the external display, which is the only non-black one), nothing looks to change.

Note: while trying to reproduce with my above steps, the issue didn't happen. It seems like it's important for the remote Mac to not be connected to the external display (and letting it go to sleep ?) in order to reproduce the issue. Then opening the lid, screen remains black, I connect the external display, which will show contents and from there I can proceed.

If I toggle Off then On the internal display in BetterDisplay's menu, it also brings it back.

Ok. I then simply recommend using this. I am not sure whether the issue is strictly related to BetterDisplay - having the screens unavailable during high performance streaming is normal and maybe there is a bug of some kind with the lid closed/open. The screen appears upon exiting BD because the app by default attempts to reconnect all displays (same as in the Tools menu), even ones not soft-disconnected by the app when exiting, just to be sure the user is not left stranded with disconnected displays - so this does not signify that it was BD that disconnected the display in the first place.

Imo this is not a satisfying solution: if I only have access to the laptop, then the only thing I can do is force a reboot. I can only use above options because I had an external display available at home.
