Odyssey G93SC: unable to go above 3840x1080 resolution

Hi all,

I just got macbook pro m4 and am trying to connect it to my Odyssey G93SC monitor with the HDMI cable that came with the monitor and works perfectly fine with my PC. On the mac however, I get a max resolution of 3840x1080.

I have tried instructions from discussions to force the default resolution to 5120x1440, however, it doesn't seem to work (attaching screenshot). Is there anything else try? Thanks!

Hmm. Weird. Did you try with USB-C/DisplayPort?

Forcing a native resolution won't work if the resolution is not among the negotiated viable timing options.

Thanks for answering! Just tried with HDMI to USB-C, same result :(. Ordered a DisplayPort to USB-C cable that should arrive by Sunday, will report back!

Ah one important piece of information I did not mention is that I had to switch hdmi to 1.4 version on the monitor settings (latest firmware), if left on 2.0+, it is simply not detected

That might explain the issue, HDMI 1.4 probably won't have the required bandwidth to provide full resolution. I recommend using USB-C to DisplayPort if possible as your Mac outputs DP signal natively over the USB-C port. For HDMI you need a converter (either an external one or the built-in one in your MacBook) - most of these are optimized for TVs.
