HiDPI Not Applying to LG FHD Monitor via DisplayLink (BetterDisplay Pro on MacBook Air M1, macOS 15.5)

Hi,

I’m trying to get HiDPI scaling to work on my external monitors using BetterDisplay Pro on my MacBook Air M1, running macOS 15.5.

Setup:
• Main display: MacBook Air M1 (Retina)
• External Monitor 1: LG IPS QHD (2560x1440) — connected via USB-C
• External Monitor 2: LG FHD (1920x1080) — connected via DisplayLink adapter
• BetterDisplay: Pro license active

Goal:
Enable HiDPI (Retina-like sharpness) on the LG FHD monitor, which currently displays blurry text and UI compared to the MacBook.

What I’ve Tried:
• Installed and activated BetterDisplay Pro
• Created a Virtual Display with HiDPI resolution
• Attempted to mirror the LG FHD monitor to the virtual display using BetterDisplay
• Restarted, reconfigured, and tried different mirroring and resolution options
• Verified permissions and settings in System Preferences

Problem:
Even with Pro features enabled, the HiDPI scaling doesn’t seem to apply to the LG FHD monitor (the one using DisplayLink). The screen still appears low-resolution and unchanged after mirroring.

Help Needed:
• Can HiDPI scaling be forced on a DisplayLink-connected monitor using BetterDisplay?
• Is there a specific method to mirror a virtual display to a DisplayLink monitor effectively?
• Any known limitations or workarounds for DisplayLink + HiDPI on macOS 15.5?

Hi - BD won't control DisplayLink displays as you have the DisplayLink app taking sole ownership for them. You can however create a virtual screen and mirror or stream its contents to the FHD display (now you do neither - simply enabling a virtual screen will do nothing, it will just sit in the memory without being seen). You don't need to enable custom resolution list for the FHD display, simply leave it at 16:9 for more resolution options.
