LG 34BK95U/34WK95U + reinitialize this display on wake = screen blanking

I've always had issues waking this monitor up from sleep through all versions of MacOS.

After tapping the mouse to wake up the computer, one of two things will happen:

(1) the computer will wake up to the login screen as you'd expect

(2) the LED backlight turns on, but the screen itself stays black but the login page never appears and the backlight turns off... then I click again and again and again until the login screen appears

The "reinitialize this display on wake" setting seems to work and wakes up the screen to the login page... but the moment I start trying to enter my credentials the screen will turn blank and turn back on (sorta like it goes into sleep and wakes up again immediately).

I have a feeling this feature is soooo close to fixing this issue :)
