I have the same problem

I was able to install it using pnpm

All I did was

1. Install Vue:

   npm install vue

2. Install Pinia:

   npm install pinia @pinia/nuxt

3. Add Pinia module to nuxt.config.ts:

   export default defineNuxtConfig({
     modules: ['@pinia/nuxt'],
   });

4. Import defineStore from Pinia:

   import { defineStore } from 'pinia';

This setup worked perfectly for me! 👌🏽
