Emit event from composable

Hi, is there a way to emit an event from a composable?

I understand define emits is not available outside of script setup

src/composables/asyncDataStatus.js

import { defineEmits } from 'vue';  // Can't use outside script setup 
export function useAsyncDataStatus() {
	
	const emit = defineEmits(['ready']); // define emits only available in script setup
	const asyncDataStatus_ready = ref(false);

	function asyncDataStatus_fetched() {
		asyncDataStatus_ready.value = true;
		emit('ready');
	}
	return { asyncDataStatus_ready, asyncDataStatus_fetched };
}

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is the docs, hope this can help you.

defineProps and defineEmits are compiler macros only usable inside <script setup>. They do not need to be imported, and are compiled away when <script setup> is processed.

Hi, I understand that. My issue is that I'm using a composable that will be imported throughout my components.
I need to emit an event from the composable but don't have access to emit.
