Here you go. What I did to fix this issue. I added for every element a highlightOffset option and then set this to a negative value. Because of the z-index of highlighted item it fixes my issue. But this requires to hack or copy your library.

Hey man, actually the highlight features cannot have border radius because it is actually a hole in the overlay. I think, I have a feature that add a background element as highlight. I will try to review the code this weekend.
