Version in .deb for 2.5.3 incorrect?

I've been using the appimage for novelwriter most of the time, as I use Nobara Linux (Fedora based) most of the time. But occasionally I use Linux Mint, which still had 2.5.2 installed. So today I downloaded the .deb for version 2.5.3 and installed it. When I started it and tried to open a project I got a message saying that the last version used to update the project was 2.5.3 (from Nobara) and this version (the .deb) was 2.4.3.

So I get this

Am I doing something wrong?

I just tested the package, and got 2.5.3, so I don't know. Are you sure the package you downloaded got installed? And where did you download it?
