Listitems have truncated Fieldnames

I have a list that have some descriptive names with spaces, brackets and question marks. The Listitems that are returned has fieldnames Truncated to 32 characters. Is this normal? Pasted the content of below

'Reason for not using Sharepoint' becomes 'Reason_x0020_for_x0020_not_x0020'
'In Prior Forecast?' becomes 'In_x0020_Prior_x0020_Forecast_x0'

is there a way to get the full names? I plan to use the code to update the list contents based on an Excel file, so its important that I get the full fieldnames

Is this is known issue?
