Finding broken unit tests

We currently use folder based configuration sinks/sources/transforms/test and often struggle to find where the error is being generated from. For example
vector test -C /etc/vector/ will render

Running tests
2025-06-12T02:30:33.785518Z ERROR vector::unit_test: Failed to execute tests:
invalid type: unit value, expected any valid TOML value.

As there anything we can do in the running or configuration of the tests to include the usefulness of this message?

Hi @tbenade, I agree there is a lot of room for improvement in config diagnostics. See this open issue: #23008
