Configuring block areas in the block grid is confusing

I've configured an area of a block in a block grid. It is very confusing (to me) that I am supposed to drag the area indicator to the desired width. If there was a helpful text to explain this then it would have been very helpful. For reference, this is the ui I am referring to:

Note that there is not even a grip indicator.
