List View Custom Filters

I'd like to have a List View, and select custom filters, for example a dropdown or a button list, that's populated from a field in a child document type.

I'd like to be able to filter by more than one custom filter. Below is a basic example of what I'd like to achieve.

So for example, I'd like to see a list of results for all Red and Round hats

I just assumed this would be quite simple to achieve. But looking around, it seems that other people have come unstuck with the List View when it comes to pagination.

I think it would be a really handy feature, as we could do away with nested folders and streamline a content editors experience, as in this example, currently they would have to create folders within folders, but with my example, we could just add a dropdown in the doc type.
