Notifications on watch

Just ran a quick test on simpluator and also my own apple watch and when a notification is shown on the watch screen, there is no information showing?

Interesting. Although this project isn't 100% complete, the notification message is hardcoded on a string so it should never be nil. Have you allowed notifications on the Soap app on your iPhone? Also, is it connected to debugger while running? This is because this app is not configured with an APNS certificate.

No just connected my watch via iphone and ran it on there. Didnt have it on debugger. Also is it setup correctly for core motion? I have washed my hands many times today and still says 0 in both watch app and the iphone app

I think there seems to be an issue with it running in the background task. When connected to a debugger, WatchOS removes any limit to the app performance in the background. But outside this environment, it can throttle it which makes it stop detecting motion from this app. Let me have a look at it though

It does the same on the stand alone watch app. Doesn't reconise that ive washed my hands. Any fixes? i will check the code later as well :-)

The stand-alone app is only meant to remove the redundant phone app. I'm still trying to find a fix. But if you watch the demo, you can see that it can work. However, note that I still had to connect it to the debugger for it to do so. One of the challenges is I can't see when the WatchOS has suppressed the app's background task as it can only happen outside of debugging environments

Not yet. I'm trying to lower the frequency of the data it collects from the sensor with the hope that its background operation won't be suppressed. At this time it's 50 Hz. But I'm trying to find the lowest point. Unfortunately this means I have to retrain the machine learning model. So it's going to take some time. Moreover, I'm trying to improve the accuracy of the model by using two separate ones for the left and right wrist.

Unfortunately, I’ve not been able to figure this out. I should’ve read the documentation more thoroughly before I started this project. It turns out it is not possible to run an app in the background in WatchOS unless it’s a workout or a time measurement-related activity e.g. clock.

Initially, I looked at making this app a complication because WatchOS does allow it run in the background though it only runs it periodically. But when I tested it, it didn’t work at all outside of debugger mode.

In theory, I think if Apple were to try to make this app themselves, they would’ve have to update WatchOS to change the background task management algorithm so it wouldn’t suppress this task.

I’m not pleased on how I should end this project. But I guess it’s still an exciting one to tinker with. If you want to learn more about the machine learning model and how to train it or anything related to this just let me know :)
