It's a constant hassle to work out which version of each package works with each other, fighting through trait-mismatch-pain to keep up with the constant changing nature of all these tiny little packages.

Which crates are you talking about? There are no more than two crates in this repo that you should be using directly in applications: axum and axum-extra.

Happy to add axum compatibility to axum-extra's changelog / GitHub releases, but it sounds like there is more to your issue.
