Furnace (XP) : no video

Hi,
This indeed will be a dumb newbie question, but does Furnace require a minimum video hardware?
Have two XP sp3 computers; both are standard HP computers. Desktop runs Furnace beaut with no issues. The laptop that I use everyday, when Furnace is ran immediately after extracting, just get a completely blank screen with the default piano selection and sound output.
Have searched here, issues, readme and the FAQ. Seems as though noone else has ever had this issue.

Your graphics card must support DirectX 9 (both the card's drivers and DirectX 9 must be installed as well) or OpenGL 3.0.

Thankyou; greatly appreciated.
Have (specifically) DX9 as well as DX10 & OpenGL installed, as well as the latest video driver (2012) for the low-end inbuilt Intel video card. Its just a bit weird; assume that the lappie is just a tad too old in the video hardware department.
Anyway, I won't worry about the laptop - (works fine on the desktop.)
