Add FireOS Ambient experience videos

I've compiled a list of videos available from FireOS's ambient experience/screensaver. The quality of the videos vary, but there are some really nice ones, as well as a few abstract videos.

It might be nice to make these available as well

Thanks for the list, do you know if there are 1080p versions?

Is there an APK from the device that we can mine for more info?

I should have asked you before compiling this list. I think the videos are handled by the Ambient Home app, I can get the apk, but I no longer have a FireOS8 device to pull the app data folder. I relied on logcat to create the list attached above. If you have a FireOS8 device like the 2nd gen Max I can tell you how to extract the app data folder for that app.

I don't have access to a FireOS 8 device, I have an old testing device but it's running 7.6.x.x I think.

Lets see what the APK reveals and if we need more info, I can ask around and see if someone can extract the data folder for that app.

But it won't open on FireOS7, it's missing dependencies. If needed, I can json format the links and data. I'm just not certain that there wasn't more information about each of the videos that wasn't displayed, that may be available in the database

I wasn't able to find any strings relating to the videos, so it must get downloaded by the app after install and is likely in the data folder (as you were suggesting), so we need to find a way to get that data.

I'll check if I can get someone to volunteer to dump their data folder from their FireOS8 Stick.

The UI has more information that the data entry, I'm not sure if this additional information is in the apk or read directly from an Amazon server.

I was able to find HD, FHD, UHD links for each video, including a thumbnail URL. So it might be best to manually create each entry with the additional video description entry.

We can drop the 720p videos, but the rest are fine - 1080p HEVC and 4K HEVC.

And taking one example from the initial text file you posted, picking the accessibilityLabel and pointsOfInterest should be straight forward enough (I would remove the year though)

Thanks - I'll try and get a new beta out which has support for custom feeds. We can use that feature to test the new feed.

The collection is all part of the Fire TV Ambient Experience app, which is the new fancier screensaver for FireOS8 devices, with photos, videos and widgets. So I might just call this collection Fire TV Ambient Experience, or perhaps just Ambient Experience.

Thanks for all your work on this.

I had to make a few fixes to the file, but it's been added to the repo so I can reference it in-app for testing.

I can add 'time of day' and scene type, but it'll take a while.

Also, I notice that a few videos are quite abstract so I'll need a new scene type for that - as it's not nature, beach, city etc (you'll be able to toggle on/off scene categories in the next update)

Yeah my opinion is that 60-65% of the videos are AppleTV quality, 10-15% are generic stock footage library stuff, %5 not so great like the fireplace videos, maybe 10% are abstract and a few of the abstract ones are just ugly.

The Ambient Experience app does group these videos into different collections of 3-10 videos with different themes.

I was going to say, if it's possible down the line for people to get a jpeg preview of the video list and allow them to exclude what they don't like, that would make the list more bearable, less random. There are thumbnail preview urls for each video from the amazon server.

I could have guessed the time of day for a bunch of the videos, but since it wasn't included in the original descriptions I left that out. Most of the videos also have a director or stock footage company credited. I didn't see a entry for that so I left that out too.
