In my _index.md I have a few paragraphs of text. The text is rendered centered, which doesn't look good (see https://stittsvilletrails.ca/). I would like it to look like the other pages (eg https://stittsvilletrails.ca/help-us/). I cannot find how to do this, even with chatgpt nothing has worked. Any help would be much appreciated.

The tc-1 on your article tag on that page is doing the text-centering. I am not sure how it gets in there, because I can't see your code and in the original Ananke code-base I can't find a single tc-1 :) You might have a layout/index.html, the file responsible for the homepage rendering. In there might be the article tag. Remove the tc-1 and see if that fixes your issue.

ChatGPT knows only the context you hand over to it and my guess is it does not know that you use Tachyons (the CSS library) and how Hugo works. I get helpful responses by having it know the FULL repository and check out docs for all components. AI is only as good as the instructor, hehe, it's a "person in front of the keyboard" thingy.

But do the tc-1 thing :)

No layout/index.html in there, just a vanilla hugo install with git submodule for the ananke (which therefore uses main branch rather than master, very confusing btw how you have both as the main readme refers to exampleSite from master branch but main seems more recent!!).

I know what you mean about chatgpt, I use it every day in my regular work (devops + VR desktop apps).

I use it every day on aws, azure and gcp cloud infrastructure code (terraform, python) and ci/cd automation (python, bash) and have coded for years writing virtual reality applications (C++, python, C# etc), just not much html/css. So whereas I fix a lot of mistakes made by genAI in my regular work, here for this community website that I volunteered to help write (until they can find a "real" web frontend developer!), I don't have that expertise. But it is still faster for me to use something like AWS Amplify and Hugo and a configurable theme and Chatgpt/Claude, than to learn html/css from scratch (which I do not have time to do, or inclination, because it's not a long-term goal for me, just a means to a short-term end).

Like I said, Ananke does not have a tc-1 class, your home page has. So somewhere between adding the theme and building your site is something between it. The index.html I referred to if you don't change anything is this here - no tc-1. Your homepage definitely has a class named tc-1 ;)

Like I said, it is a vanilla install. Vanilla, as in, latest hugo, git submodule for ananke on default branch from yesterday, then a lore ipsum paragraph in an index.md. That's it. See #847 for details.

That is not code. I am talking about your layout files that contain .tc-1. Your issue will not be resolved without knowing what is happening with your site. Ananke does not contain .tc-1. .tc-1 centers the content on your home page above. I won't be able to spend more time on this without insight into what is used on your website.

In the github issue I created, I gave the exact steps to replicate the problem, there are no other files needed than those described in the issue.

So if you follow those steps exactly, and you don't see the text centered, then you can close the issue as not reproducible. Almost for sure independent of OS so if you don't have ubuntu you could still try, just make sure you use the same semantic versions documented in #847.

I am using another theme so this is not a blocker for me.

You are right, there is a tc-l class in the home page layout. You have found a solution by using another theme, so I will close this as solved. For anyone else having a similar issue: Create a local copy of the layouts/index.html file and add your modifications.
