Cannot type a 1. and then a space

Describe the bug
If I type

And then a space.

The 1. disappears

Other numbers appear to work fine, but not 1.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. Type 1.
2. What I just typed disappears.

Expected behavior
I expect to be able to e.g. type

1. something
2. something else

I also just notice that (at least sometimes) the exact same thing happens when typing an asterisk and then a space too! :(

i.e.

* is not possible because it just gets deleted.

The HTML editor is probably trying to automatically detect lists, and is too aggressive. I wonder, does the HTML editor provide a configuration option behind-the-scenes to turn this off? If so, it may be better to do this, assuming my suspicion is correct that most users will be okay with just using the toolbar options for creating lists.
