Upgraded from 1.3x to 2.x now it's not working anymore, anyhelp for dummies?

Hi, I just upgraded on portainer/docker with normal procedure with Putty like Backup / Pull and everything went well like x times before.

Can someone tell me now with a bit step by step how I can bring it back to life?
I know I do have to delete some db, install a new version... but I am completely lost.

I would very much appreciate if someone can guide me so I am up and running again with this faboulus tool which runs now since 3 years, since I own the car.

Hi,

Unfortunately portainer create such issues and is not supported.

If you have a backup (as you should before upgrading). Use this backup with old version, upgrade PostgreSQL (see https://docs.teslamate.org/docs/maintenance/upgrading_postgres) and then upgrade TeslaMate.

2.0.0 was a breaking change release, indicated by the SemVer (change in Major) and stated in Changelog and Release note.

I have now installed it new on a plain raspberry, just docker and Teslamate, it's up and running.

Now yes I do have made a backup when I tried to upgrade, so data should be available and I have saved the "teslamate.bck" on a PC drive where it now savely is ;-)

Can you or someone guide me with a step-by-step how to get the data back?

Stop the teslamate container to avoid write conflicts

docker compose stop teslamate - this is clear....

How to enter this?

# Drop existing data and reinitialize (Don't forget to replace first teslamate if using different TM_DB_USER)
docker compose exec -T database psql -U teslamate teslamate << .
DROP SCHEMA public CASCADE;
CREATE SCHEMA public;
CREATE EXTENSION cube WITH SCHEMA public;
CREATE EXTENSION earthdistance WITH SCHEMA public;
.

I copied the .bck file the same place where my docker-compose.yml file is... that's where i copied it away last time.

Restore

docker compose exec -T database psql -U teslamate -d teslamate < teslamate.bck - this is clear as well

Restart the teslamate container

docker compose start teslamate - as well this is clear

But how to enter it and where, I use putty to access the installation

Great you have a working backup! And yest the steps are this: https://docs.teslamate.org/docs/maintenance/backup_restore#restore

If you use putty, you need to navigate to the folder where your docker-compose.yml is located and ideally your teslamate.bck.

Your TeslaMate need to be running ( so docker compose up -d)

You can then just follow the instructions, so

1. enter this in your terminal(putty) docker compose stop teslamate and press enter
2. enter this (yes, the dot at the end is needed):

docker compose exec -T database psql -U teslamate teslamate << .
DROP SCHEMA public CASCADE;
CREATE SCHEMA public;
CREATE EXTENSION cube WITH SCHEMA public;
CREATE EXTENSION earthdistance WITH SCHEMA public;
.

3. enter this: docker compose exec -T database psql -U teslamate -d teslamate < teslamate.bck
   This take some time depending on your Host and the Database size

4. enter docker compose start teslamate
