A few weeks ago I received in my mail a postcard that the US Postal Service created specifying the correct way of writing the address. I took a picture of it and uploaded it here: https://imgur.com/a/gdIuX2T
The postcard is mostly in Spanish because outside of San Juan, most of the population cannot speak English. They want to make sure that the residents understand it. Our mail carriers have been warning that they we could stop receiving mail at any moment if we don't tell people to correct the way that they write our addresses, but they insist on 'fixing' our addresses. Amazon and many other big vendors are some of the mayor culprits. Apparently they use an API service that modify the addresses in Puerto Rico and other USA territories in a way that is not compliant with the USPS format. I got to call in to have it fixed by a person, because the UI was always breaking it (Amazon).
If you notice the postcard, the instruction for the 4th line, it says: CITY, STATE/TERRITORY, ZIP CODE. This means that you don't omit the middle element for jurisdictions that are not States, like Washington D.C. or unincorporated territories like Puerto Rico, USVI, Mariana Islands or American Samoa.
Moreover, the State concept is very USA centric (also used by some countries that adopted the terminology, like Mexico). Do you keep this column empty for countries like Canada that are divided by Provinces instead of States?
I wonder what need to be done so that Teslamate could populate the PR (for Puerto Rico) in the column now reserved for State. May in the future, it would be better yet if this column would be labelled State/Province, to make the application more international.
