I think this is by design, because with the overwrite option you are saying don't create a new destination, just overwrite the existing files.

The alternative would be to allow both, overwriting existing files as well as creating a new destination file, but I don't think that's a common use case. You would rather use grunt-copy if you need to publish your files in a destination?

src: ['foo.php'],
rename: function(src, dst) { return src; }

which achieves a similar result, except that it overrides all files even if there is no change.

Hmm, I suppose you could change line 75 to

  if (!overwrite || f.dest != '') {

and that would also obey the dest if it's not empty. Up to you, I suppose it's fine either way :)
